What is the Xero Claude connector?

Definition

The Xero Claude connector links a Xero organisation to Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, so Claude can answer questions from live accounting data such as profit, cash, invoices, bills and aged receivables. Xero publishes it in Claude's connector directory. It is read-only and follows the user's Xero permissions.

How Xero connects to Claude and ChatGPT

Xero and Anthropic announced a multi-year partnership on 27 March 2026, and the Claude integration went live on 12 May 2026. To connect, a user adds Xero from Claude's connector directory, signs in with their Xero login and picks an organisation; it needs an active Xero subscription and any Claude plan, including the free one, and Xero charges nothing to connect. The connector can't create, edit, approve, reconcile or pay, and Xero says shared data is used only for the session and never to train Claude's models. Xero's plugin in ChatGPT went live on 16 September 2026, powered by JAX, Xero's own AI assistant, and gives profit and loss, balance sheet, invoice and bill data. Developers who need to write data use Xero's Remote MCP server, included on the Core developer plan at A$35 a month and above, or the open-source Xero MCP server, which runs locally and reads and writes invoices, contacts, payments and journals. QuickBooks has a Claude connector and a ChatGPT plugin that create and send invoices and estimates; the Claude connector is for US customers only.

How do I connect Xero to Claude?+

Open the connectors directory in Claude, add Xero, sign in with your Xero login and choose the organisation. No developer setup is needed. You need an active Xero subscription and a Claude account, free or paid.

Can Claude make changes in Xero?+

Not through the connector. It is read-only, so Claude can't create, edit, approve, reconcile or pay. JAX, Xero's own assistant, can create invoices and send quotes, and Xero's Remote MCP server lets developers build tools that write data.

Is there a Xero ChatGPT integration?+

Yes. Xero's plugin in ChatGPT went live on 16 September 2026. It is powered by JAX and gives profit and loss, balance sheet, invoice and bill data inside ChatGPT.

What is the Xero MCP server?+

Xero offers two. The Remote MCP server is hosted by Xero and included on the Core developer plan and above. The open-source Xero MCP server on GitHub runs on your own machine and works with Claude Desktop and other MCP clients.

Does Claude train on my Xero data?+

Xero says data shared between Xero and Claude is used only for the user's session and is never used to train Claude's models. Xero's developer terms also bar using its API data to train AI models.
