How Copilot works for finance teams

Copilot in Excel builds and edits workbooks: it writes formulas across several sheets, creates charts and PivotTables, sorts, filters and highlights data, and imports data from other workbooks. It runs in Excel for Windows, Mac, the web, iPad, iPhone and Android. Microsoft made the Finance solution in Microsoft 365 Copilot generally available on 20 October 2025, now called the Finance agent. Financial reconciliation is generally available: it compares data sets, finds unmatched transactions, creates a reconciliation report with suggested fixes and saves as a reusable template. Customer communications in Outlook, variance analysis and data preparation in Excel were in public preview at launch. In Outlook, the agent pulls invoice and payment data from Dynamics 365 Finance, SAP and other ERPs to draft replies to customers. The organisation needs Microsoft 365 Copilot licences, and users see only the ERP data their ERP roles allow. Microsoft states that the agent's content and interface are available only in US English for now. Microsoft 365 Copilot costs US$30 per user a month paid yearly in the US and £23.10 excluding VAT in the UK, on top of a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan. Microsoft says business data is encrypted, isolated between tenants and not used to train foundation models.
