What is accounts production software?
Accounts production software turns a company's trial balance into statutory accounts under UK accounting standards such as FRS 102 and FRS 105, tags them in iXBRL, and files them to Companies House and to HM Revenue and Customs with the Company Tax Return. Accountants use it to prepare year-end accounts for many clients.

How accounts production software works
The software imports a trial balance, often straight from the client's bookkeeping software, maps it to the accounts lines and produces full statutory accounts for members and HM Revenue and Customs, plus the filleted, abridged or micro-entity version sent to Companies House. Micro-entities, which meet two of £1 million turnover, a £500,000 balance sheet and ten employees, can use FRS 105; most other small companies use FRS 102, whose 2024 review changes apply to periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026. Since HM Revenue and Customs's joint filing service closed on 31 March 2026, accounts sent with the CT600 must come from commercial software, and from 1 April 2028 accounts at Companies House must too. The 23 October 2026 update keeps abridged and filleted accounts, so software still produces them. Practice products price by number of clients: TaxCalc Accounts Production starts at £164 a year plus VAT for 12 clients, Capium at £20 a month plus VAT for up to 100, and Clear Books Tax at £199 a year plus VAT for three companies. Xero Tax comes at no extra cost for UK Xero partners.
