Deel Adds Identity Fraud Detection to Its Payroll and HR Platform
Deel Security adds identity checks from first application to daily access, but the price is unpublished while EOR starts at $599 a month.
Deel launched Deel Security on October 29, an identity fraud product that screens job candidates before an offer and keeps checking employees after they start, for a price it has not published.
The launch matters to finance teams because hiring fraud ends in payroll. A fake or proxy hire draws a salary, gets a laptop and gains access to systems, and the cost lands in the budget the finance team owns. Anyone weighing Deel pricing for EOR will want to know whether the new checks cost extra. Deel’s pricing page lists no security or identity verification add-on.
The company’s pricing page lists employer of record services from $599 per employee a month, contractors from $49 a month and Contractor of Record from $325 a month. It states no separate price for Deel Security, and its announcement named no customers or pilots. Deel did not publish detection accuracy or false-positive rates.

What Deel Security does for hiring and employment
Deel Security analyses risk signals across resumes, digital footprints, interviews and identity documents. It flags deepfake or proxy interviewers and matches a live selfie to a government-issued ID before an offer is made.
After hire, it continues to verify identity at what Deel calls critical security checkpoints. The product integrates with Deel ATS and other applicant tracking systems, and with identity management tools such as Okta. Every verification carries an exportable audit trail.
“Fraud comes in layers, and it is changing fast,” Alex Bouaziz, co-founder and chief executive of Deel, said in a statement on October 29. “AI has made fake resumes, deepfakes, and stolen identities cheap to produce and hard to spot.”
Bouaziz said most vendors verify identity at a single point in the process. Deel says its product covers every layer, from the first application through the full employee lifecycle.
Where Deel Security sits in the Deel pricing EOR stack
Deel Security builds on a purchase made earlier this year. Deel announced on August 3, 2026 that it had acquired Clarity, an AI company focused on identity verification, deepfake detection and fraud prevention. Deel said it was already using Clarity’s product before the deal.
The acquisition post said identity checks would start during sourcing in Deel’s talent product, continue through onboarding and extend into ongoing access management through Deel IT. Deel did not disclose the price of the deal in that post.
That fits the structure of Deel’s offer. An employer of record takes legal responsibility for a worker in a country where the client has no entity, so verifying that the worker is who they claim to be sits close to its core liability. Deel’s pricing page says payroll is included in the quoted EOR price.
Whether Deel Security is bundled into Deel’s EOR pricing, sold per check or priced per seat is not stated. Buyers should ask for the answer in writing, along with the volume of checks included and the cost of each additional one.
The fraud data behind the launch
Deel’s pitch rests on a threat that regulators and analysts have documented. The US Department of Justice said on June 30, 2025 that North Korean information technology workers had obtained remote jobs at more than 100 US companies, including many Fortune 500 firms.
In the same announcement of coordinated nationwide actions, the department described searches of 29 known or suspected laptop farms across 16 states. It also described the seizure of 29 financial accounts and 21 fraudulent websites. Prosecutors said one scheme compromised the identities of more than 80 US persons and generated more than $5 million in revenue.
US facilitators who hosted the laptops received at least $696,000 from the IT workers, according to the department. The model depends on a real address in the hiring country and a stolen or borrowed identity, which is the combination a selfie-to-ID match and a device check are designed to catch.
The wider candidate pool carries the same risk. Gartner predicted that by 2028 one in four candidate profiles worldwide will be fake, and its survey of 3,000 job candidates found that 6% admitted to interview fraud. They said they had posed as someone else or had someone pose as them. The 2028 figure is a forecast, not a measurement.
The payroll consequences follow from this. A fake employee draws pay, and a ghost worker run through a legitimate bureau looks like any other line on the register. Finance teams reviewing global payroll controls will find that identity checks at hiring close a gap that bank-detail checks alone leave open.
How rivals handle identity checks and EOR pricing
Deel’s rivals sell similar EOR services at similar list prices. Remote’s pricing page lists employer of record from $599 per employee a month on annual contracts, and does not list a monthly-billing rate. Buyers comparing the two can start with Accountio’s Deel vs Remote comparison, or its Remote alternatives page.
Rippling competes from the HR and IT side, and Accountio’s Deel vs Rippling page sets out where the two overlap. Deel IT, which links hiring, role changes and offboarding to access workflows, is Deel’s answer to that overlap. Accountio’s Remote vs Rippling comparison covers the third pairing.
Dedicated identity vendors offer a different trade. They sell verification as a standalone service that works across any HR system, while Deel Security works inside Deel’s own platform and with the applicant tracking systems it integrates with. A firm that runs payroll elsewhere gains little from the bundled version. The full list of platforms is on Accountio’s vendor comparison pages.
What finance teams should ask Deel before buying
Deel’s announcement leaves several figures unstated, and they decide whether the product is worth buying. Finance and HR buyers should put these questions to the vendor before signing:
- Is Deel Security included in the EOR fee, or charged per verification or per seat?
- What are the detection accuracy and the false-positive rate, and on what test set?
- How are biometric images stored, for how long, and under which data protection regime in the UK, the US and the EU?
- Which customers are live, and in which countries?
The data question carries legal weight for firms hiring across borders. Matching a live selfie to a government ID processes biometric data, which the UK GDPR and EU GDPR treat as a special category. Rules on consent and retention differ between the three markets and between US states.
Deel has not said what happens to a candidate whose check fails. A false positive that rejects a genuine applicant is a hiring cost and, in some jurisdictions, a legal one, so the audit trail Deel promises matters as much as the detection rate.
Deel has not said when Deel Security reaches all customers, or how it will appear in Deel’s EOR pricing when it does.
