How to choose

  • Who will keep the books: the business itself, an accounting firm, or a service that does the bookkeeping for you?
  • Does it file the taxes you need where you operate, such as VAT returns, sales tax or e-invoicing?
  • Which banks, payroll and payment apps does it connect to today?
  • Can your accountant work in it alongside you, and how is that priced per client?

Common questions

What can I use instead of QuickBooks?+

Xero is the closest like-for-like replacement, with US plans from US$27 a month. FreshBooks is built for service businesses that invoice clients, Zoho Books for companies already using other Zoho apps, and Wave for very small businesses. If you would rather not keep the books yourself, Collective, Uplinq, Outmin and Pilot pair software with people who do it for you.

How much does QuickBooks Online cost in the US?+

Intuit lists a free plan, then Simple Start at US$38 a month, Essentials at US$85, Plus at US$140 and Advanced at US$340. New customers are usually offered a discount for the first three months.

When should a company move from QuickBooks to an ERP?+

Usually at the second legal entity, the first foreign currency, or when inventory, revenue recognition or consolidation is being done in spreadsheets. At that point the comparison is with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or one of the AI-native ERPs such as Campfire, Rillet and DualEntry, all covered in Accountio's ERP comparison.
